WESLACO – Identity thieves are using Facebook in order to get a hold of personal information.

Identity loss, stolen passwords, and bank account information can all be gathered in a single click.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS received an email claiming to be from Facebook which wanted us to verify an account because of a committed copyright violation.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas spoke with a social media expert to find out ways to prevent hackers from stealing information.  

"They get you to log in with your Facebook credentials and with that information, they can access everything that you use Facebook to log into; whether that's a shopping account or other social media profiles, they have all that information at that point,” says Application Developer and Social Media Expert Richard Franka.
