EDINBURG – Coming off one of their toughest losses of the year, Thursday’s game was a make-or-break moment for UTRGV women’s basketball. Making things even more difficult, only eight players were suited up due to injuries.

The Vaqueros overcame a short-handed roster to beat Seattle U 69-67.

Quynne Huggins led the way with a career-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.

“It was very important for us because you know we’ve been working really hard,” said Huggins. “Trying to stay positive considering we weren’t really doing as good as we wanted to in starting conference.”

With the conference tournament around the corner, UTRGV can still catch UMKC and Utah Valley for the fifth seed. The Vaqueros are two games back of the Wolverines and Kangaroos with four games left.

“We had a nice team meeting on Monday about what defines us,” said Tidwell. “I brought them in here and we looked at the three banners that we’ve hung in this gym that nobody’s ever hung before. We’re ready to make a run.”

Thursday’s win marked the 500th win of Larry Tidwell’s coaching career. He has 289 high school victories and now 211 college wins.

UTRGV plays their home finale Saturday against Utah Valley. Tipoff is schedule for 7pm inside the Fieldhouse.
