WESLACO – Almost five months after major flooding took place in parts of Hidalgo County, voters cast their ballot for the $190 million drainage bond.

About 68 percent voted for the bond, which will help pay for drainage ditch improvements.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with Drainage District No. 1 Manager Raul Sesin about the improvements needed.

He says the bond will pay for 37 general improvements of the drainage system and other improvements deemed necessary after June’s floods.

“Primarily, there are a lot of linear detention systems that we're going to be doing, which is basically taking existing drainage systems and expanding them,” Sesin explained.

He says thousands of people will be impacted by the approval of this bond.
