UPDATE (2/22): Drug Enforcement Administration agents say candy laced with marijuana is a rarity in the Rio Grande Valley.

They tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS such products are sold in states where marijuana is legal.

They believe these candies came from one of those states.

"A lot of this is coming down through the mail service, through parcels. So, it is just us being able to detect some of this at the schools, when we see it with our children. I think parents need to be more concerned about this and look at what their children are bringing in," explains DEA agent Rudy Maldonado.

MCALLEN – McAllen police seized candy laced with marijuana at a local residence.

The department determined the products are laced with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), an ingredient identified in cannabis.

The candy was seized at a residence in the area of 25th Street and Lindberg Avenue on Friday.

The product imitates commercially available candy, which could be targeted at children.
