New Reporting System for Law Enforcement in Texas

HIDALGO – A new crime-reporting program in Texas is working to reduce crime rates and quicken response times.

Every police and sheriff’s department across Texas will be mandated to start reporting crimes on the same database starting September.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff, a more uniform crime-reporting system means trends will be more easily tracked and better communicated.

Sheriff Eddie Guerra says law enforcement from any department and office anywhere will be able to see more specific details of a report.

“We have the ability to pinpoint where our burglaries are happening in the county, time of day, so we can adjust our staff, our patrols to those locations and our strike teams to those locations," says Guerra.

He says the new database will provide better communication, meaning safer communities.
