Social Media Threats Against McAllen Area School Causes Concerns
MCALLEN – The McAllen Independent School District is taking no chances after a threatening post circulated on social media.
A student, identified after an investigation, has been placed in custody, according to the school district.
Officials sent parents an email early Thursday morning alerting them to the hoax messages.
We’re told they were directed at McAllen area schools.
McAllen ISD sent the following statement, which reads in part:
“Following a tragedy like the one in Florida, it is not uncommon for there to be hoax messages of this sort. However, we take all matters involving safety seriously.”
McAllen ISD police patrol campuses every day and will remain on high alert.
The district encourages everyone to be attentive and report suspicious activity to 956-632-8768.
