Valley Doctor Charged in Alleged $240M Health Care Fraud Case
McALLEN – A Rio Grande Valley doctor has been charged for his alleged involvement in a $240 million health care fraud case.
Dr. Jorge Zamora-Quezada was charged with one count of count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and five counts of health care fraud.
He allegedly diagnosed patients with various diseases who were otherwise healthy and did not need medical attention in order to increase revenue. The young, elderly and disabled were among the victims.
The 61-year-old made his first court appearance on Monday.
His detention hearing is set for Tuesday.
