BROWNSVILLE – Brownsville police said two men are facing arson charges for starting a fire at a city park.

A police officer was patrolling Cabler Park, located near Central Ave, when he spotted Luis Felipe Hernandez, Nicolas Rios and a juvenile around a small grass fire.

According to the officer, they were hoping the smoke would keep mosquitoes at bay.

Brownsville Police spokesman JJ Trevino said the men were charged with arson because it is illegal to damage city property.
