EDINBURG – Seven suspects accused of stealing money from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s commissary fund are behind bars.

Daniel Gonzalez III and Ivan Sobrevilla were the last two suspects to be arrested.

The duo, along with five others, are accused of cashing more than $10,000 in fake checks. The cashing allegedly happened over the course of a five-day period last month.

Each fraudulent check allegedly had the forged signatures of Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

The sheriff’s office said the checks were not authorized or issued by the county jail.
