SAN ANTONIO - For 24 minutes of Thursday's UIL 3A Semi-Final basketball game, Mount Vernon was clearly the best team on the Alamodome floor against Santa Rosa.  The east Texas school had lost only once all season, and boasted a pair of towering players on the front line. They backed that hype up when they scored the first 13 points of the game, never trailed, and built an 18 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.  That's when the Warriors caught fire.  Santa Rosa rallied to pull within one point with three minutes to play.  All of a sudden, anticipation of a Mount Vernon appearance in Saturday morning's championship game was confronted by a freight train wearing black and gold.

The Warriors only scored two points after nearly erasing the Mount Vernon advantage.  The end result was a 63-54 loss that ended Santa Rosa's season at 24-15.  CHANNEL 5's Joel Villanueva and Brandon Ortega followed the action on Thursday.  They file the final 5 on 5 report of the basketball season to chronicle Santa Rosa's near miss.
