SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Cameron County park rangers are investigating after a body was found at South Padre Island.

The body of a McAllen resident was found Monday morning a quarter mile north of Andy Bowie Park beach. 

South Padre Police Chief Randy Smith says the male victim was dead on arrival from an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities say homicide has not been ruled out in the case.
