Border Patrol: More Than 7,000 Migrants in Custody in Valley

WESLACO –Border Patrol agents released new numbers on illegal border crossings in the Rio Grande Valley.

Currently, there are more than 7,000 migrants in custody in the Valley.

We’re told more than 2,400 people were caught within a 24-hour period over the weekend.

Authorities say this year’s apprehensions have already surpassed last year’s numbers.

According to the acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, 50,000 bed spaces for migrants are occupied nationwide.

We’re told 3,300 beds are available in the Valley.
