Brownsville Woman Says Animal Control Took Hours to Respond
BROWNSVILLE – A Brownsville woman says it took hours for animal control to respond to her calls for help.
Resident Maria Leija says a loose dog targeted her five-year-old son after he was dropped off by the school bus.
“[At] 6:32 p.m. exactly is when I called 9-1-1. They said they were going to send the dog pound,” she says.
Leija explains animal control didn’t show up until 9:30 a.m. the next day.
KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro did some digging to find answers.
We learned there’s only one animal control officer on-call in Brownsville.
On that same night, there were three other reports. A spokesperson tells us they prioritize the calls based on severity.
