WESLACO – The active duty troops who were deployed to provide support for Customs and Border Protection won’t be carrying out immigration enforcement duties.

The military says when it comes to their use of force, they will follow CBP’s policy.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg reached out to CBP to learn when lethal force is authorized at the border.

The feds were unavailable for an interview but sent their guidelines and procedures handbook, which states deadly force may only be used if the border authorities feel a person poses an imminent danger.

CBP explains officers working the border have to take class four times a year centered on deescalating volatile situations in the field.
