Dialysis Patients Deal with Delay for Treatment at Weslaco Clinic
WESLACO – Patients at one Rio Grande Valley dialysis clinic had to wait a day and a half for treatment. They said there are problems with the company’s equipment.
A group of patients at Fresenius Kidney Care in Weslaco spoke to CHANNEL 5 NEWS about the problem.
They said their last treatment was on Friday.
“And we were due to come back on Monday, which we did, and then they told us that the machines weren’t working,” Joe Salazar said.
We reached out to the clinic to find out what could be done for the patients waiting for dialysis. And by 3:00 p.m., Salazar said the group was getting dialysis at another Fresenius Kidney Care Facility in Harlingen.
Jon Stone, with the clinic, sent us the following statement:
“As a result of an issue with the water filtration system, dialysis treatments at the Fresenius Medical Care Weslaco Clinic in Weslaco, Texas were temporarily delayed yesterday and today.”
It went on to say treatment in Weslaco is back and running smoothly. The clinic said it added extra shifts to accommodate patients whose treatment was delayed.
Patients said they hope the clinic creates a backup plan in case this ever happens again.
