DONNA – Officers at Donna Independent School District are now armed with Narcan.

Narcan is the brand name for naloxone, the drug used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

The drug was developed so first responders, parents and teachers could administer the nasal spray with little medical training.

Donna ISD Police Chief Daniel Warden says this is strictly a preventative measure as there haven’t been any signs of an opioid problem within the district.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with a parent who has more piece of mind with this change.

If you or someone you know is suffering from an opioid addiction, contact the Valley AIDS Council for a Narcan kit.
