DONNA – On the agenda for a late Monday meeting of Donna school board officials was the future of the district’s chief financial officer.

The meeting began at 6 p.m. where board members discussed behind closed doors until around 9:15 p.m.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS was able to speak with school board member John Billman about what was discussed.

He said that right now they are in talks with CFO Maricela Valdez’s lawyer.

Last month, CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported about an audit on Donna ISD.

Auditors found that Valdez was not qualified for the position she held. Their main finding was that she lacked an accounting certificate.

Valdez has been on paid administrative leave since Jan. 20, 2017, while continuing to earn a yearly salary of more than $100,000.

Billman said legally a decision on Valdez’s future may take some time.
