EDINBURG – An Edinburg man says water from an irrigation canal is creeping in his neighborhood.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS learned an old infrastructure is to blame.

We also learned this problem is present throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg reached out to the Hidalgo County Irrigation District 1 to find answers.

The general manager of the district, Rusty McDaniel, tells us the cost to overhaul the canals could be in the thousands.

McDaniel explains, for now, the best method of repair is concrete seal.
