Edinburg Police Participating in Annual DWI Enforcements
EDINBURG —The Edinburg Police Department has increased patrol efforts this holiday season to keep drunk drivers off city roadways.
Edinburg has a zero tolerance to driving under the influence, and any suspected driver will be pulled over.
Edinburg Police Chief, David White, asks drivers to think twice before getting behind the wheel. “The person under the influence may believe their condition is unnoticeable, but they should remember that our officers are training to detect this sort of thing. So if you drink and drive in Edinburg, you will get arrested,” he said in a press release.
The crackdown periods run from December through Jan. 3, in an effort to prevent alcohol-related traffic accidents. Last year, statewide, there were 2,374 during the holiday season and 102 were fatal. In Edinburg, officers made 21 DWI arrests and issued 1,965 tickets.
TxDOT encourages citizens to plan ahead this holiday season, by either not drinking, finding an alternative ride or designating a driver.
