MCALLEN – An elderly couple escaped without injuries after their vehicle caught fire in McAllen.

McAllen Fire Department crews responded to a car on fire at the westbound frontage road near the Bicentennial Blvd. exit along the expressway.

The couple told police they exited the vehicle after they saw the fire start at the bottom. They said another driver warned them as they drove with flames underneath their van.

No injuries were reported.

The owners said they had just purchased the van and already experienced issues with it.

Crews continue to suffocate the flames.
