ELSA – The city of Elsa is gearing up for a mayoral and school board election, as well as voting on 35 city amendments.

Approximately, 6,617 people live in the city of Elsa. Election Day is Saturday for the city as well as several others around the Rio Grande Valley.

The 35 amendments on the Elsa ballot could change how the city does business. CHANNEL 5 NEWS asked several people if they knew of the possible changes.

Some said they didn’t.

One Elsa resident said he wasn’t going to take the time to read all the amendments.

“No I’m not. It’s going to take more time out of me to read all those amendments just to for what? I think it’s a lot of amendments,” Roberto Ladesma said.

“I’m a voter. I’m going to vote,” Luis Rodriguez said. “But the truth is I’m going to vote for the people I know and the people who I think are apt to do the job. There might be some people that know but the majority of people that I know don’t know about the article. I think so they don’t have to read so much, they might leave it blank as to not get in trouble.”

A sample ballot for Elsa shows it’s about 18 pages.

We asked political analyst Jerry Pollinard for comment. He declined direct comment saying he wasn’t that familiar with the Elsa issues.

He simply said, “That’s a lot of amendments.”

So far 33 residents cast their ballots in person as part of early voting.
