Emergency Shelter in Mercedes on Standby
MERCEDES – Residents in Mercedes say the city hasn't made many improvements following the June floods.
The Safe Room and Community Recreation was inaccessible after heavy rainfall prompted authorities to activate it.
"We were standing out here when the rain was going and the cars would drive by, stop and they'd have to go back," says resident Rene Rodriguez. "There was no way they could get in."
Rodriguez says they're hoping this time they don't get stranded with no way out.
KRGV’s Taylor Winkel reached out to the city manager, Sergio Zavala. He says the city will have an additional shelter set up at Sgt. Manuel Chacon Middle School.
