WESLACO – The first of three disaster recovery centers in the Rio Grande Valley is now open to help flood victims get back on their feet.

The Weslaco Economic Development Center will house the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other partnering organizations until Sept. 4, the deadline to apply for assistance.

This is where residents like Osiel Gonzalez can obtain information on how to apply for federal assistance or how to check their case status.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez spoke to a FEMA media relations specialist who says people who don’t qualify for federal aid still have other options at the DRC.

The Weslaco site, located at 275 S. Kansas Ave, is scheduled to open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
