LA JOYA – Fire investigators say someone intentionally set fire to a home overnight.

Celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday was difficult for Maribel Uresti. She lost everything she owns Wednesday in a late night fire.

Her neighbor broke the news to her before 10 p.m. The flames engulfed her home and everything inside. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.

The Hidalgo County Fire Marshal ruled out the possibility of Wednesday’s fire being electrical.

Investigators are treating it as a criminal investigation. They’ll spend the coming days combing through debris in hopes of finding evidence that could lead them to a suspect or suspects.

Uresti said she can't imagine why someone would go so far as setting fire to her home and risk her family's life.

“I have nothing. All my memories, everything went up in flames. All our belongings went up in flames. How do you replace something like that? How do you replace something that meant so much," said Uresti.

The home wasn’t insured. Uresti says she doesn’t have means to afford to rebuild.
