Inmate Who Died in Cameron Co. Jail Suffered Head Injury
HARLINGEN – The inmate who died inside a Cameron County jail suffered an injury after his head hit a cement bench inside a cell.
Inmate Gabriel Angulo Rivera, 42, was taken to jail for a DWI and child support charges, according to a Texas Attorney General death report.
The report states he became combative with detention officers.
They say “necessary force” was used to restrain and place Rivera in handcuffs and leg shackles – that’s when he hit his head.
He was later taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
