Man Accused in Teen’s Shooting Death Pleads Not Guilty

EDINBURG – A man who shot and killed a 16-year-old in Pharr earlier this year pleaded not guilty to capital murder.

Ambrosio Guadalupe Rodriguez went before a judge on Friday for an arraignment. He faces capital murder by terroristic threat.

Rodriguez shot and killed 16-year-old Gerardo Rodriguez while attempting to rob and burglarizing Jose Luis Soto and Theresa Plascencia.

It happened mid-March of this year in Pharr.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported three masked men stormed a home shooting the teen.

Ambrosio Rodriguez faces life in prison without parole. The state is still waiting to decide on whether they will seek the death penalty in the case.

The state is also waiting for data regarding the gun and lab results for DNA at the crime scene.

Rodriguez is due back in court late next month for a pre-trial.

According to court records, Rodriguez also faces charges for possession of cocaine and multiple burglary charges.
