DONNA – It's a sight any driver on Val Verde Road in Donna can spot immediately.

"It's getting very ridiculous man," says resident Phillip Gonzales.

Gonzales tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he lives right across from a giant pile of tires which has been growing bigger as the days go on.

"Imagine if you had that in front of your house. What would you do?" he says.

Gonzales says early Tuesday morning he saw someone toss a few more onto the pile.

“They do it at night so I can't see their license plate, and they do it so fast I don't have a chance to run over there to get their license plate or tell them something,” he explains.

Gonzales says this is the biggest he's ever seen the pile.

"I use to be a mechanic and I use to take off tires, so that's about a good 50 or 60 tires right there," he estimates.

Gonzales says aside from being an eyesore, he’s concerned over the number of mosquitoes they bring.

"They infest. You'll be out here slapping them away," he says.

He says while the county did pick up the mess a few months ago, the problem remains.

"Everything went smooth. They came and picked them up and for about a month everything was fine," he tells us.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS stopped by the Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office to find out what is being done to stop the tire turmoil.

Chief Deputy Espinosa tells us crews are investigating the site. He says both the commissioner’s office and the Donna irrigation district have been notified about cleaning up the site.

Espinosa urges people like Gonzales to be their eyes in the area during their investigation.

He adds anyone who is dealing with illegal dumping in the county to contact their local constable's office.
