Mercedes Hope Extra Investment in Holiday Decorations to Attract Visitors

MERCEDES – The holidays about to get more expensive for a Rio Grande Valley city.

Mercedes officials spent around $106,000 on a tree and street crossers, all imported from France hoping to bring tourism and money back into the city.

But now officials tell us they have to spend $7,000 more because assembling and taking down their decorations needs special attention.

In terms of revenue for the city, Marisol Vidales, who is in charge of planning for the city’s holiday event, says they actually don't expect to make any money this year.

She hopes people do end up stopping by the city, an idea local business workers can benefit from.
