Mercedes woman seeks answers after renovation confusion leads to theft investigation
MERCEDES – A woman is in search for answers after four people stole from her. One of the accused was a Mercedes city employee.
Norma Cosme says she received a call from her neighbor, telling her all her belongings were outside. By the time she got home she found a construction company gutting her apartment.
After calling the on-site manager, she was told a contactor was supposed to be renovating a nearby apartment, but got the number confused. Now, Cosme says that confusion cost her several personal items.
According to Chief Dagoberto Chavez of Mercedes police, they arrested a suspect, Robert Martinez, who had been hired as a dog catcher about two week ago.
The chief says Martinez was driving around in his city vehicle when he came across Cosme’s property and put some items into the vehicle.
Three other arrests were made.
