Mexican Consulate in Brownsville awards grant for TSC students
BROWNSVILLE - The Mexican Consulate presented a check to Texas Southmost Colllege for $10,000 during a signing ceremony on June 6, 2018. Texas Southmost College will match the amount awarded by the IME Becas Program on Education for Mexicans abroad. During the ceremony, TSC President Jesus Roberto Rodriguez, Ph.D., and General Consul Juan Carlos Cue Vega signed an amendment between TSC and the Mexican Consulate in Brownsville, which allows assistance to deserving students to continue until December 31, 2018.
Through the IME Becas Program, TSC will grant scholarships to ten Mexican nationals or persons of Mexican origin residing in the U.S. to help them succeed in post-secondary education. Last year, five students benefited from the scholarship provided by the IME (Institute for Mexicans Abroad), and this year they are able to double that amount and assist up to ten students with scholarships.
Consul Cue Vega said, "The scholarships will contribute to the education of a new generation that is needed in both Mexico and Brownsville."
