HARLINGEN – A house fire is currently under investigation in Harlingen.

Fire crews responded to a home on the 800 block of North A Street around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Harlingen fire officials said they were able to extinguish the fire in the two-story residence shortly after noon.

We learned an 85-year-old man living in the home was rescued by his neighbors. They told CHANNEL 5 NEWS the elderly man was not even aware his house had gone up in flames.

“He was still sitting there. We’re the ones that saw when it was on fire,” said one of the witnesses. “He was sitting there on his porch, without even knowing that his house was already on fire.”

No injuries were reported.

The elderly man was still at the scene recovering from the incident. His family said although they lost valuable family heirlooms, they're glad their relative made it out unharmed. They now plan to either rebuild or make extensive repairs to the home.

Investigators with the Cameron County Fire Marshal's Office said it’s unknown what caused the blaze and how much damage the house sustained.
