PSJA ISD Student Back Home After Near-Drowning Incident

PHARR – A Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District 6th grader who nearly drowned during a swimming class is now out of the hospital, according to the school district.

On Wednesday, the student went underwater for two minutes before staff pulled her out.

The Audie Murphy Middle School student is part of a morning swimming class at the Pharr natatorium.

The school district said the student left the hospital Thursday night and is doing well.

PSJA ISD is investigating the incident.

On Thursday, officials said they’re adding staff for pool activities and conducting more training.
