RIO HONDO – Some people are dealing with the aftermath of severe storms. Rio Hondo police said their vehicles took a hit.

The police chief said three of their units received dents from the hail and they’re still looking to see what other damages it may have caused.

According to the National Weather Service, Rio Hondo received reports of hail measuring two to three inches in diameter, which is roughly the size of a baseball.

Hail is formed when an updraft during a thunderstorm carries raindrops upwards where it then freezes into balls of ice. It then becomes too heavy to stay in the air and falls to the ground.

NWS said they’ve received reports from other people in the Rio Hondo area who also got damage from the storm.

Police said they are currently assessing the town for damage.
