Sharyland ISD alumni call to action after uproar over ‘hazing incident’
MISSION – Some Sharyland Independent School District alumni are responding to reports of an alleged “hazing incident” involving current students by organizing a march for student survivors of sexual assault.
The rally will take place Saturday at 3 p.m. at Banworth Park in Mission. The march comes after seeing the uproar from the community at the Sharyland ISD board meeting earlier this month.
The alleged incident happened late last year during an athletic event in Corpus Christi.
Saturday’s rally will include speeches by former students, parents, sexual assault organizations and survivors from the school district.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS’ requests for specific information from Corpus Christi police and school administrators have largely been denied, with authorities citing student privacy concerns.
