PHARR – A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing an ambulance.

The vehicle was taken from McAllen Medical Center, but was later found crashed in Pharr. Authorities said the man was being transported by ambulance from San Juan to McAllen.

Police said that is when the suspect allegedly stole the ambulance.

Pharr Police Chief Ruben Villescas said the male driver lost control of the vehicle and hit an object on the road – then fled on foot.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials were called in by the Pharr Police Department to assist with air support.

The man was found and arrested.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to McAllen Medical Center spokesperson. They said the hospital was unaware of the incident because they do not oversee ambulance services.
