SULLIVAN CITY – A body believed to be that of a missing Honduran woman was discovered Tuesday.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke with a resident who lives near the site where the woman’s remains were found.

Mirta Sandoval, a Sullivan City resident, has a different story to tell about the border traffic.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said border apprehensions are down under the Trump administration.

But Sandoval said when the aerostat blimp used by the Border Patrol is down, border crossings go up.

The blimp gives Border Patrol an “eye in the sky” for monitoring people on foot along the border.

Sandoval said she's lived in the area for 40 years. She stated that border crossings occur more frequently now.

She told CHANNEL 5 NEWS it’s not uncommon for her family to make contact with people who cross.

“My son used to leave his semi parked here and illegals would hide inside it and leave water there. There were about four or five of them. Sometimes, he wouldn’t see them. What would happen if he took off without spotting them,” said Sandoval.

Details are still being gathered about the body that was discovered in the area.

Officials said she was carrying identification of the missing Honduran woman; she is believed to be that of Maria Portillo.
