BROWNSVILLE – Cameron County taxpayers will be getting improved customer service as the tax assessor-collector moves to a new office.

The new central office is relocating to 835 E. Levee in downtown Brownsville. It will be closed Monday and Tuesday for moving purposes and will reopen for regular business hours on Wednesday.

Cameron County tax assessor-collector Tony Yzaguirre said the new location is more spacious and offers a seating area that will help cut down wait times.

There will also be five lanes and an overnight drop-off box for those looking to pay their property taxes and renew vehicle registrations, amongst other business.

"People were standing in line to get service, and over there every body's going to be sitting down," Yzaguirre said. "We're going to have a ticket service system where you walk-in, somebody is going to greet you, you tell them what you need, you get a ticket, you sit down and the system will call your number and it will tell you what teller to go to."

Yzaguirre said there will also be a security guard on duty to ensure customers' safety at the new downtown location.

Parking is available adjacent to, behind and across the street from the building.

All other tax-assessor collector offices throughout the county will remain open on Monday and Tuesday.
