A 15-year-old female has been arrested and charged with false alarm after a social media threat against Mission Veterans Memorial High School on Thursday, Mission police Chief Cesar Torres said at a press conference.

Mission police and Mission CISD held a press conference Thursday to address the social media comment alleging an act of violence at the high school.

The suspect's name is not being released because she is a juvenile.

Torres said they were first alerted about the threat Wednesday at 11:00 p.m., Torres says a student from Veterans Memorial High School put a post on social media about a shooting at her school.

By 3:00 a.m., Mission PD Criminal Investigation showed up at the girl's home.

“We’re in an upright roar right now, parents are scared students are scared, and we want all students to succeed in school," Torres said. "However, we also ask them to not post these types of posts on social media."

Police say the student admitted to making the post. She was charged with false alarm, which is a felony in Texas, according to officials.
