SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – There are three candidates running for mayor of South Padre Island this year.

This election is different from others; Mayor Dennis Stahl resigned earlier this year and candidates are competing to fill the unexpired term.

The first candidate is Darla Jones.

Jones is former assistant city manager who says she served for nine years in government at South Padre Island and five other Rio Grande Valley cities.

She says her biggest priorities are bringing a healthcare facility to the island and improving infrastructure.

The second candidate is Clayton Braschear, owner of Clayton's Beach Bar, as well as a construction company.

Braschear says his biggest priorities are the Island Beautification Project, beach nourishment projects, and maintaining the flats and drainage.

The third candidate is Patrick McNulty, real estate broker and owner of a construction company.

McNulty has been chairman of Planning and Zoning for eight years, and served on the shoreline task force committee.
