UPDATE (5/7): Customs and Border Protection says funding gained by the national emergency declaration will not be spent in the Rio Grande Valley. 

We're told the $3.6 million will be spent in El Paso and in Yuma, Arizona. 

The money will be used to build 53 miles of new wall, replace sections of roads and repair roads.

WESLACO – Concerns continue at the National Butterfly Center with the possibility of a border wall running through it.

They’ve waited for a clear answer for months, they want to know what to expect next.

An appropriations bill gives protections from the border wall to five locations in the Rio Grande Valley, including the National Butterfly Center.

Shortly after the bill was passed, the president signed an executive order declaring a national emergency.  

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with the coordinator at the center who is worried this will provide a loophole to build where they want to.
