HARLINGEN – Rio Grande Valley aviation crews are remodeling some of their planes and filling them up with donations to help hurricane victims.

Sun Valley Aviation partnered with First Community Bank to use planes for a relief effort.

Donations include medical equipment, 110 pounds of brisket, four chainsaws and tree cutters.

"If we can make the roads habitable and we can open up transportation then a lot of other things can then come into it,” said Sun Valley aviation pilot Paul Chapman.

Pilots are taking these items to Rockport, the first city hit by Hurricane Harvey's 140-mile per hour winds.

Chapman said he has provided air relief during Hurricane Dolly and Katrina.

"Just imagine right now, if I took a hose and soaked you down and put you in a strange city with no job, no car, no clothes what would you do? How would you feel?” he said.

Chapman said he hopes the supplies will help restore the entire community.

He and another pilots departed from the Valley and plan for another trip back to impacted coastal areas later this week.
