PORT ISABEL – A shrimp boat captain from Brownsville and two of his crew members are facing human smuggling charges.

Court documents show they were trying to navigate 14 people in the country illegally through the Gulf of Mexico.

The U.S. Coast Guard foiled the attempt when they boarded the Linda Labin for an inspection off South Padre Island.

All 14 people on board are identified as Mexican nationals.
