Valley Woman Denied Twice for Federal Assistance

WESLACO – A Rio Grande Valley woman who is still recovering from the June flooding says she was denied federal assistance a second time.

Applicants have four opportunities to appeal to the Federal Emergency Management Agency if they are denied.

Diana Vargas says she was denied the first time because her name was misspelled. She says she was denied again because the house was deemed safe to live in.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro reached out to FEMA about Vargas’ case.

The agency urges people in similar situations to go apply at a disaster recovery center in person and bring pictures of the damage.
