WESLACO – Rio Grande Valley residents are still trying to cope with flood damage and the loss of valuable personal items.

A Weslaco resident says the recent floods destroyed pictures and paintings he held close to his heart.

“Your couches and stuff like that, that’s all replaceable. But then you have your photos – like I got my mom’s photo from her marriage,” said resident David Garces. “It’s a painting. It’s not a picture that I can go get a copy of.”

Garces tells us he does not have flood insurance. He says they’ll be equipped with it next time.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke to an expert about how to deal with the aftermath of a weather-related event.
