Gun Violence Survivor Speaks Out About Incident
WESLACO – A Rio Grande Valley woman shot by her father in 2012 is speaking out about the incident.
Mariam El-Haj says she doesn’t consider herself a victim.
“I call myself a survivor because despite the circumstance that I have to live with, I am surviving every day,” she says.
El-Haj says in 2012, her father violated a restraining order and came into her home, shooting her as well as her boyfriend and mother.
She says her father was convicted, but she still feels the physical and emotional pain.
El-Haj says she strives to make sure others who survived gun violence don’t feel alone.
