EDINBURG - A motorist who commutes an intersection north of Edinburg every day said he wants a crack fixed before someone gets seriously hurt.
Alejandro Cano Jr. said he and a coworker were driving by the intersection of US 281 and FM 1017 when they first noticed the large crack in the overpass a few weeks ago.
Upon closer inspection, we found another crack around the corner on the west side of the overpass.
“We were making a left turn on 1017, and then I told my helper, ‘Hey Yellow, there is something wrong with the highway.’ So, we looked to the left and we saw that big old crack,” he said.
Cano said he’s passed the crack several times to see if any repairs have begun, but was surprised to still see it there.
“It came to my concern. So, every day for four days we come back, because it started getting to my conscious and I have to report this to somebody,” he said.
Cano said he worries about other Valley motorists.
“What is something happened that we don’t want to happen? People may get killed, truck drivers, because I’ve seen a lot of accidents on 1-69, especially semi drivers,” he said.
Cano said his concerns made him reach out to us. He wants to warn the public, so they can take precaution when driving near the area.
