Man in Brownsville High-Speed Chase Arrested
BROWNSVILLE – A man is behind bars after leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a wild chase through Brownsville.
Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio said 26-year-old Markus Herrera tried to evade authorities on Sunday.
He said concerned citizens had reported he’d been recklessly driving in a neighborhood.
We’re told Herrera fled when deputies tried to pull him over.
When he finally came to a stop in a field near Morrison Road, Herrera allegedly proceeded to ram three deputy vehicles to try and get away.
A deputy fired at the truck’s front tire in an attempt stop him.
“We used assistance from other agencies to try to stop these vehicles, and we try to use all the caution that is possible,” said Lucio. “What we are trying to do is prevent this individual from running into somebody and killing them, because they have no regard for anybody.”
Lucio said Herrera appeared to be under the influence of inhalants. He said two air duster cans were found inside his vehicle.
Herrera is charged with assault on a public servant among other charges.
