Safety measures put in place for mini-parade at Harlingen nursing home

HARLINGEN — A parade of families, local residents and even a marching mariachi band honored the mothers at Retama Manor Nursing Center in Harlingen giving them a Mother’s Day celebration they will never forget.

More than 200 vehicles were lined up for the special event.

Avoiding the fate of many nursing homes nationwide and two nursing homes less than a mile away, Jeff Tait, administrator at Retama Manor Nursing Center, says patient care is the first priority.

“We wanted to have an opportunity for people to see their loved ones from a distance safely and of course give them the opportunity to express their love in their own way,” said Tait.

Tait says he trusts the rapid response to the pandemic in the early stages will help the facility stay coronavirus free.
