LA JOYA – Two men are in custody in connection to a fatal human smuggling attempt.

The incident happened last Wednesday in La Joya.

The Department of Public Safety says the suspected human smuggler slammed into another vehicle as he tried to flee from police.

The 18-year-old driver was arrested Tuesday and is facing two counts of murder and human smuggling charges.

A 25-year-old also custody is being charged with smuggling and engaging in organized crime.

Both suspects will be transported and released to the Hidalgo County Jail.
