WESLACO – The Weslaco Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire at an abandoned home.

Flames broke out on Tuesday around 4:00 at a duplex near Westgate and Mile 9.

Weslaco Fire Chief Tony Lopez said when crews arrived on scene they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the apartments.

Firefighters were able to tame the fire within 15 minutes.

Lopez said the duplex had no power running to the residence. Both apartments were unoccupied.

He said there were items in the homes that appeared to be for storage.
